Can you believe it’s January already? I don’t know where the time has gone! I was off work for a week and a half, while Jean got the holidays off – and the time off was wonderful! We spent time with friends and relaxed – oh, and baked a lot of cookies!
There was no adoption news over the holidays, but our social worker emailed me yesterday and mentioned that our home study has been reassigned. She said it has gone to a social worker that she knows from years ago, and she really likes her. That’s great news! Now we just have to hear from her to schedule our first meeting and get this show on the road!
We also have a new goal – to be ready for the Kelowna matching event at the end of April. For those that don’t know, matching events are arranged by the Ministry of Children and Family Development in regards to kids in care. Guardianship workers (social workers that oversee the cases of individual children) are there, as are social workers with families who are looking for children. Prospective families also attend, and have the opportunity to meet Guardianship workers and learn about specific kids in care.
And another cool thing… a woman at our church approached me, and shared that her family is also in the process of adopting through the Ministry! Exciting stuff! I love to make connections like these – sometimes adoption can be a bit of a lonely road, and it’s really cool to have someone who “gets it” – both the positives, and the frustrations. Community is such a cool thing 🙂
