You know how they say silence is a bad thing? Well, in the case of my blog going silent since August, it’s been a good thing 🙂 Believe me on that!
I wouldn’t even know where to start if I was to recount all that happened in the last five months! But I’ll start with this. When our boy moved in, we talked about our emergency plan – we live just outside of the city, and are surrounded by forest. As I’m a paid-on-call firefighter, it was also important for him to know what to expect should the worst happen. And just a few days after writing my last blog post – and just two weeks after he moved in – the worst happened. My pager went off for a forest fire – the worst one our district has ever faced.
Talk about a way to grow together in adversity! I spent a few weeks on the fire line and we spent 5 full days evacuated and living in a hotel – and we were the lucky ones! So many across our province were out of their homes for weeks and months, and so many lost their properties. We were blessed to have a home to go back to!
Then school started! Our boy tried out for and was subsequently selected to play on the Junior A basketball team, which has made for a very busy term – but I wouldn’t trade it for anything! He has settled in so well, and we are so proud of all he has accomplished! This kid is amazing!!! I could brag all day…
And our 6-month residency period is almost up! I can’t believe how fast the time has gone! Our social worker is hard at work putting together our file, and we can apply for the adoption court order in just a few weeks. It’s almost official everyone!
Thank you for your patience with us as we settle in. And I look forward to sharing a little bit more of that process in the future. I thank you for your emails and your support and encouragement – each letter has meant so much to our family!
